Making resolutions has always been weirdly important to me, been making a big deal out of them since I was like 8 or 9. At some point I figured out that a list of resolutions didn't work though. I kept getting vague or just making an endless silly bucket list.
Maybe 5 years ago I began to make a list of "areas of improvement" that I wanted to work on or do, like health, art, travel, finances, tattoos. I've narrowed it down over years to a core set that most things I wanna do fall into. This way I have some vague things like "do more printed work" and more specific things like "build an instant camera" and "visit Japan" and "join Suicide Girls" (I checked that one off yesterday ^_^).
A lot of my goals revolve around making more art (either art-based goals, or living long enough and having enough money to keep making art). There's too many interesting things still to try and experiment with and learn and experience ^_^ I don't really know what I'm doing but I'm gonna have fun doing it!
Some of My "Areas of Improvement"
Creativity - Do more printed work; make zines and stickers. Play with VR/AR and revisiting 3d Modeling software. Paint more (digital and traditional) and workshop with Honolulu Printmakers
Tech (and tech-in-art)- Finish out tech certifications. Build projects with Raspberry Pi + arduino; Make a thermal-receipt camera and a mini Minecraft server. Make a tiny pen-Plotter.
Health- Less processed foods + more tacos. More 5k runs this year. Go to min 1 yoga class per month. Do the Aloha 1/2 marathon
Self-Enrichment- Attend art workshops. Find and listen to more podcasts and documentaries. Go to more local film festivals.
Finances- Find a way to make some money from art projects. Save more money (to be able to do the next two goals)
Tattoos- Keep working on sleeve, add to other arm. Figure out what to add next on legs.
Travel- Travel to Japan. Island hop, at least to Big Island and Kauai. Go to at least one regional Burn.
I've also got a big list I just keep adding to off odd things I wanna do but that list is unmanageable. It's basically everything that sounds vaguely interesting that people I meet do or talk about in a huge bucket list. I'll never be able to cross everything off but I'm sure gonna try!
