I compiled a list of the bands and tracks I want to play on the internet radio station I'm starting. The next step is to figure out how to make the right playlist. I'm using the active rock format which focuses on current artists and songs but mixes in some of the old favorites. I'm planning to open up (a little bit) which classics are played and mix in some of the non-US bands that could use a little more air time.
I have to research to do on how to build a good playlist. The current songs get more play, of course. where and how often to mix in the older songs? I worked in radio for years but never bothered asking the Programming Director how it's done. In retrospect, I should have. Perhaps I can put in a call to the local rock station and talk with their PD.
