I'm building a workbench, but because it's in my living room, I wanted it to look like furniture. I wanted an oak butcher block table but the oak is far too expensive. I ended up using a white birch butcher block table, which is nearly as strong as oak (I didn't know that until I researched it) and it cost a lot less. I used 1" gas pipe for the frame. It is very solid and easy to work with. Plus, as a bonus, it give it an industrial look. The frame turned out to be a couple inches bigger than calculated. That is an easy fix. Once the frame is done, I can sand and seal the wood.
It is 40.5" tall which is a few inches taller than I wanted, but it will work. I can stand and work at it or I can get a stool and sit.
