Man what a crazy day at work.
Patients today:
~ A guy who was brought in by the police after swallowing five crack cocaine rocks. He was spacey, jabbering incoherently. So uncoherent that he didn't flinch when the IV was started. Of course we needed a uring same and yes I ended up doing the cath to get his urine sample. Luckily he wasn't combative.
~ A 16yrd who sliced his middle finger off just above the second knuckle with a myter saw. We really thought the Orthopedic Doctor was going to suture it back on but unfortunatly too much damage was done and he ended up losing the finger. I got to spend a good amount of time with him while I irrigated the wound. Poor kid was just sad that he wasn't going to play the guitar again. I just sat there and told him to keep his head up. If he wanted to, he would play guitar again.
~ I now know the dangers of Walmart. A woman who was shopping with her husband had a palet of pickles and mayonase fall on her.
~ After all this I wondered what could happen next. Then we had a 20 yrd woman with an ectopic pregnancy comes in, after rushing her to the operating room. The OR nurse asks tells her that her eyebrow ring has to be removed along with any other body piercings. She stats that she has her nipples and her bellybutton pierced. The OR nurse replies "I don't understand self mutilation, I don't know how to take those out." The ER nurse with me doesn't know how to take them out also. So they both look at me. The ER tech with an obvious eyebrow ring and the half sleeve dragon sticking out of his scrubs. I ask if the OR kept any needle nose pliers around. They do not. So I suck it up and take the eyebrow ring out. Hike up her gown and take the belly button ring out. Then her nipple rings. I was lucky, they had the plastic balls and it was very easy to remove those without any difficulty. Thank god she didn't have any more piercings down south.
So that was my day at work. I need a shower and a nice hot cup of tea.
