The "most prized possession" thread got me to thinking ... there's this drawing board that I stole from high school.
Long ago, when I was 15 or so, there was a watercolor taped to it that I was working on so diligently that I brought it home. The watercolor made it back to school (and actually won an award!) but the board never did.
It now lives between my couch and my end table - always directly to my left should I need it. I use it as a 'lap-table' to eat meals, read the newspaper, pay bills, write my neverending lists of things to do, on the odd occasion actually draw .... and it's been scribbled on quite a bit over the years.
I've taken a pad sander to the thing twice to clean the slate ... and in retrospect really wish I hadn't.
Needless to say ... I love that piece of wood.
One day many years ago, I took an index card and permanently affixed it to the upper left corner of the board, under thick plastic, so I'd see it every day.
Written on the card is the following:
time is not your friend.
stop existing,
start living.
stop mulling,
start doing.
stop reminiscing,
start creating.
stop wanting,
start getting.
stop hoping,
start demanding.
stop wavering,
start caring.

I truly frustrate the hell out of myself sometimes, as I have done very little of the above.

No offense, and I'm sure you understand, but I hope my Reds kick the living shit out of your Phils, but hey, come Monday or Tuesday I will want the Phils to start winning again.
