8/10
Overall, this is one of the best Marvel movies to come out since Endgame. It ties together some loose plot threads from Captain Marvel’s previous outings, WandaVision, & Ms. Marvel. It also does a good job of addressing the “Superman Problem” - namely the problem of making a story feel like it challenges the character who can brute-force most situations.
Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeaux) & Iman Vellani (Khamala Khan/Ms.Marvel) both do a great job and the three main leads play off each other very well. Zawe Ashton (Dar-Benn) does her best with the material she’s given, but she only feels like an actual threat about halfway through the film and then only during the fight scenes. Nick Fury, the Khans, & Goose all do an entertaining job of handling the B-story.
Keep an eye out for a few cameos. There is an extra scene right before the credits roll & one mid-way through the credits.
