Today started out like any day... I had nothing to do and absolutely no one to do it with. But it's the 1st really beautiful day we've had around here since Sept, so I jumped in my car and went for a drive.

I figured on a day like today, I dont want to be couped up wandering the dirty city streets... So I figured I'd head out to a magical place, one of those places where you swear time has just stood still. Right on Kueka Lake there is this sleepy little town that looks like something straight out of the Andy Griffith Show. But tucked away behind a few old buildings and a fence with a sign that reads "Posted No Trespassing, All Violators Will Be Prosecuted to the Fullest of the Law" lies a wonderous place.

My grandma has a cottage on the lake and as a child, while my mom still pretended to be a mom, I'd go to the cottage once and awhile during the summer. And one year I went down for the weekend and I was in the worst mood, I was just down right depressed. So my grandma figured she'd let me in on a town secret and take me to a place of absolute beauty. So we take the 5 min. drive from her cottage into town, where we walk around this old mill of sorts. And follow this winding creek bed that is bordered by the tallest cliffs I'd ever seen. And I just thought she figured a walk would do me good, so I'm walking along and climbing on the rock formations. And after walking for a couple of minutes, we round a bend in the creek and I was able to see the base of a waterfall. So I start running and the next thing I know I'm standing in front of an enormous 3 tier waterfall. My jaw is on the ground and I'm just standing there in absolute awe. It was as if all of my cares and concerns had been washed away by the falls...

Now whenever I'm just having one of those days I take the hour or so drive out into the middle of nowhere and head for this place. I usually bring a book, my sketchpad, and a few rolls of film, because I usually stay for a few hours and let it all wash away. Today I climbed a bit and sat right next to the pool thats directly under the 2nd tier of the falls. I sat there and read a book and let the warm sun and cool fresh air wash over me. Hell if it wasn't for the fact that the water is so damn cold this time of year, I would've taken a dip in the pools that have formed under these falls. They aren't very wide or all that deep, but I'll be damned if you cant sit there and just melt away with the current.

But before I left, I had to whip out my cheap little 35mm camera and shoot a couple rolls of film. Which means that whenever the film comes back from being developed I'll be able to share the beauty with all of my friends...

This is definetely going to be one of the few things that I'm going miss about Ny after I move. But who knows, maybe I'll be able to track down another place where I can wash away my blue days...

Just wanted to say hi to you too. And I can really relate to what you were talking about; as much as I like being in a city with a lot to do, there's nothing that can beat being bored in the country, and then just going outside and wandering around a forest for a few hours.

It's cool you have an escape! L.m.k. when time permits a little work! But first, make your move and get settled in. Heh I'd send you a friend request but I don't want my ugly mug breaking up that fine collection of friends you have biggrin
