I just fed the porchcats.
This is Daryl, and I am always so happy when he shows up. He doesn't show up all the time. He used to be our constant porchcat. I'm not sure where he lives, now.
This is Darla.
She sleeps in a box on our porch with Gizmo, who has never let us pet him, ever.
Gizmo is Darla's cute protector.
He doesn't let anyone get very close to him. But he likes us and he trusts us. ❤

I'm sorry for your loss. The same thing happened to me several years ago with my evil little Norah, who was also 14 at the time, so I can understand just how terrible that can be. As to Darla and Gizmo, hopefully Gizmo comes around. Cats can be odd sometimes. My mom has one she helped who refused to come in at all... until the one time he snuck in and inadvertently got trapped inside, first hiding under a bed for months, and then under a chair, earning the nickname of "Chair Cat" (or "CC") from me. After hiding inside for a year, getting back outside, and being extremely antisocial for another year, something clicked in him, and now he's the friendliest, cuddliest cat in the world, realizing the people he didn't trust at the time were truly his friends. Hopefully Gizmo realizes that you're his friend, and starts to be more friendly and trusting as time goes on.
