Put my cat Smokey to sleep yesterday/real early this morning
I'm a complete and total wreck... my folks are too.
Noticed she was having trouble breathing this week and she looked like she was breathing funny. Also wasn't going to the bath room at all. When I changed her litter box on Wed there was just a couple small ones in there. Very odd. Samething when I changed it.. she didn't use it.
She wasn't eating nor drinking and was meowing funny. Very unusual for my cat. She hears food being put in her bowl and she's right there.
My folks were at their lake place this week... she's usually begging for food by 5am when my dad is eating breakfast before work. When it's just me at home, she's usually meowing her ass off for someone to feed her at that time. Samething when my dad comes home from work.. She's at the back door by 4:45 waiting for him... just like a dog would.
I thought she was just acting weird this week because they were gone... she hates change. And she would lay down in odd areas.
Was planning on going to the lake to meet up with my parents after work yesterday. Got home, packed up my stuff, packed up Smokey's stuff (yup, she was going with me).. we took off and all she was doing was crying and meowing sooooo badly. I just had a funny feeling about leaving and everything was pretty much telling me not to go. Just too many signs that were delaying my drive. While on the highway, I looked over at she had "that face", Told her, you better not being doing what I think you're doing. Pulled over into a gas station parking lot and sure enough, so had gone to the bathroom. This was THE sign of not to go. She was in her carrier , but some still got on the blanket below it and hopefully not on my seat
Only made it to Belleville and turned around and came home. Normally when I take her out of the carrier, she makes a B line for her food like she's so worried about the next time she'd see food again. But this time she walked all the way to the back of the hallway and just laid down. EXTREMELY odd for her.
Called my folks friends at the lake who has a place next to them. They finally called back and I told them that I wasn't going and that Smokey is acting weird. Mom said to call the vet.
Called the vet, which was closed,, but they had the emergancy vet number on their voicemail.
Called them and headed up there. We were in the waiting room for a long time. Other sick pets were there. And to be honest.. I thought nothing of it. Nothing more than some simple IV's and send us home.
She basically had this, but we honestly don't know. But she did have fluid in her lungs and around her lung area.
Waited about 2 hours in the parking lot for my parents to arrive. And they were shown and explained the x-rays.
We made a choice, a choice that my mom and I had talked about last month. One of THE hardest choices to go through.
When the Dr. brought her in the room... she just meowed and looked at all of us, in the eyes. I think this is what she wanted. I just held her in my arms, crying my eyes out and rocky her back and forth. Telling her she was going to be ok and how much I'll miss her.
My dad stayed in the room, mom and I waited in the waiting room.
We were there until 3am. Her litter, food bowl are all still full and waiting for her.
I think she's in the computer chair next to the one I'm sitting on. I can hear her meow. I can still hear how she meowed at the Dr.s as she looked at all of us.
My mom moved her bell collar. Freaked out my dad and I.
this is gonna be so hard
I've had her for 16 years.. that's more than half my life
My eyes and sinuses hurt so bad.
Looking for some pet urns that I like. She's getting cremated on Tuesday.

I am sorry that I didn't post up earlier, but I am really sorry to hear what happened. I know it is rought to lose a pet. I bawled my eyes out when I lost my last cat...
