Hello Internet.
How are you? I'm fine. I know we haven't talked lately but, well, you know, life stuff. Etc etc. It's all very dull, I won't bore you with it except for the essentials.
First of all I'm moving at the end of the month. After 7 long and eventful years me and my flatmates are leaving The Nerdcave as the landlord is selling it. I'm quite sad about this. I've built up a lot of very fond memories of the place, the vast majority of which involve you lot, or some of you at any rate. There's been a whole lot of drunken parties, wasted face-touching, human buckaroo and God knows what else down the years.
I know some of you have been there, visited, possibly passed out on the sofa. One or two of you might have done a little sick in it. In the toilet for the most part, so well done you lot. On the bright side, we're moving to quite a nice 3-bedroom house in Tooting Broadway. We originally thought we were going to have to move to the barren wastelands of South East London to find somewhere nice in our budget but it'll be nice to actually be close to a tube. Some of you can come see it when we've moved. Some of you anyway, I don't trust the rest of you bastards.
After that's all over and done with I'm thinking of changing jobs too. It's weird, I've worked in libraries my whole life but I'm feeling like I've hit my ceiling there and I'm starting to feel a little dissatisfaction with the job. I don't know if it's a midlife crisis or not, but I want a change of scenery. The only problem is I have no idea what to do, I've never done anything other than libraries. Don't get me wrong, I know I have a shit-ton of transferable skills but I just have no idea what's out there, all I know is it needs to pay me more money. Ideas on a postcard please.
Last of all, because I know I never read any of these things if there aren't any pictures to look at, I've been feeling awful nostalgic lately, possibly because of the whole moving thing etc etc. I've been attempting to gather as many old SGUK photos as I can. Here's a selection of a much younger, more innocent Creamy, it's like #throwbackthursdays except fuck you! You don't tell me what to do!
This was from back in 2005, when a bunch of UK girls did a burlesque thing not officially affiliated with the site, I believe. It was in Cheltenham and I was staying with SG Tilly (pictured). Unfortunately the night went rapidly downhill at this point, I got truly heroically drunk and vomited in possibly every piece of porcelain in the flat. It's amazing they didn't throw me out.
2005 again, this time a barbeque at former member TheNonStopDancer's house. I turned up 2 hours late as I had a nightmare on public transport, got given wrong directions and then a 14-year-old tried to mug me so I pushed him over and made him cry. Probably for these reasons it also ended up with me going slightly off the rails and vomiting off NonStop's balcony into the river outside. I was at the time having vomit races with the guy who had owned SGUK before me while his girlfriend sat on the balcony and did a bit of a cry, so just your usual Saturday night. I have no idea why I'm wearing a pimp hat and medallion, although I still own the hat.
Here's one from the Beauty Redefined book launch back in 2008. I remember we had a pretty fun little afterparty after the book signing in some bar somewhere up in North London, I forget the specifics. It was an odd night as there were a whole bunch of SGs there who I had no idea who they were, so I thought it would be a splendid idea to go around signing their books pretending I was Sean. Ssshhhh. Nobody tell him. I... uhhh.. might also have ended this night horribly, outstandingly drunk. I swear this wasn't intentional.
Oh, hey, @reuben check it out! I'm pretty sure this is the first time I ever met you back in 2009. Your hair back then looks weird. That is all.
Just to show that not every time I go drinking ends in horrible, vomit-soaked tragedy, here's one from my birthday in 2011. I still think this might just be the best party I ever threw, we decided to hold an 80's prom and decked out a private bar. Our party was so good, people kept trying to sneak into it from the Pearl Harbour-themed burleque night (WAT) downstairs. That's former member Secretary and @saiylor as my dates for the evening. That's right. Be jealous.
Well that's enough blather from me for the moment. How are you internets?
