The DJ and dance community has lost another popular DJ mix upload site. Mixcrate was founded in 2010 and gave aspiring DJs and music producers like myself a home to be creative and to express music in new ways. It was never as big as Soundcloud, but I still posted a lot of my work on Mixcrate.
I believe that there are two types of music listeners. Those who just want the hits that the media bombards you with every day and others who want to hear music that takes them on a journey which is what a good DJ mix or mashup track does. I belong to this second group and I know I'm not alone. And because of that, it is always sad to say goodbye to a website that understood us and gave us the artistic freedom we continue to strive for.
With the loss of groups on Soundcloud and now Mixcrate gone, there is now an ever increasing need for people to demand more websites that house the artists, musicians, and performers who think outside of the box. Be sure to support the ones you know in this category because they really need it.
Peace 2 all
