It makes me sad that it is so difficult for a singleton to "make it" in today's society. You are chastised in social gatherings if you choose not to have a permanent partner or exclusive relationship. You end up being the sole single person at dinner parties. People look at you and wonder if you are gay, have a fatal flaw, or are just plain fucked up enough not to have someone married to you. Life is sometimes harder. People look at you with pity. They try to set you up with their friend who is "just perfect" for you. The list is endless.
However, there are some really, really great things that come with being single and that list is endless as well. Life is definitely more enjoyable. That's a post for a later day. Remind me, and I'll write it all.
Right now, I focus on the financial (with the previous rant about needing my own place). Can one person afford a home on their own without being attached? Is one income enough to qualify for a mortgage and successfully support a single household without struggling? I desperately want to own my own digs, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to. I have two jobs, am saddled with an assload of student loan debt, and for the most part live month to month while socking a small portion away for a rainy day. I know, right now I'm very anxious and want things to move faster than they are. But I can't help but think about the fact that it might never happen.
I also ponder student loans...there is such a focus to be educated to move ahead in life. However, most people leave college saddled with debt. If you are one of those lucky people whose parents helped or made it through without an ounce of debt, be thankful. It's like having a mortgage on your own.

I sure the heck would love to know how to do it.
