My pantheon of comedic gods is a small gathering of wit indeed. Until recently, it consisted of:
Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall
John Cleese
Rowan Atkinson
Terry Pratchett
and
Robert Rankin
I say 'until recently' because Ricky Gervais has slammed his way into the lineup with the hilarious BBC series The Office. As someone who's spent most of their working life in an office environment, this sitcom was an even bigger parade of anecdotes and oh-so-true clichs than the brilliant Office Space.
I know, I know. It's hard to see how anyone could top Milton ("And I could see the squirrels and they were married."). But Gervais' mockumentary following the exploits of David Brent as the manager of Wernham-Hogg paper products makes me cringe at every turn and still manages to get me laughing till my kidneys hurt.
I've been torrenting the US version together and I have to say this is one of the few times I've seen a British show translated well for its US audience. The awful US version of Red Dwarf seems to come to mind as an example of how not to do it. *shudder*
In short: I like trafficlights. Sing it with me. And there is no point to this entry. None at all. Not a sausage.
