A little over a week ago, a woman at work IMed me that she was having a rotten day and wanted to go for a drink. A few messages later, she asks me to join her for a drink. Now, I'm all in favor of drinks, but had a plumbing emergency that day and needed to head home right after work, but I said I'd take a raincheck. No big deal, right?
So, she keeps pressing. When do I want to go? Where do I want to go? Should we get dinner? Was tonight a good night? How about tomorrow?
Anyway, I agreed to Friday night. Not what I think of as a date, but...
So, out we go. One drink. Nothing much. But I'm getting this weird vibe from her. A very date-ish vibe. But I have a few problems with that.
1: I don't date coworkers. Ever. End of story. If I did, there is a woman who sits directly across from her who I would have asked out months ago.
2: She is extremely conservative. Church going, lives with her parents (she's almost 30), votes Republican, anti-gay marriage type conservative.
3: She is extremely judgmental of everyone we work with. I generally try to get along with folks. I may not like a person, but I'll go along to get along. But she was nitpicking everybody around her, looking down on them. The only person she didn't seem to have a problem with is the one she discusses soap operas with on a daily.
So, basically, even if #1 wasn't there, #2 is a deal breaker. And number 3 was just a turnoff of epic proportions.
And back to work I go tomorrow...hoping it won't be weird.
