Thank you to everyone who commented on my previous blog. Father Smutny was quite a special man, and touched many many lives. I attended his wake service last night. The church was packed. I was a little sad that it wasn't held in one of the 3 churches he was assigned to (at the same time), but all three have been closed because of the priest shortage. I was unable to go to the funeral this morning because of my class schedule (I don't like to miss classes this early in the semester). He was a peaceful man, thought of all of us as family, and will be missed.
It was odd last night. I haven't gone to church for years. When I was younger, I was an alter boy (no jokes, no scandal, nothing like that) and up to my second year of college, I went every week. Then I started to wonder why I was going, and realized I was going because my mother wanted me to go.
Well, last night, all the old responses came back. My hands moved without even thinking about it. It was rather odd. No, I'm not going back. But it is interesting.
