I posted on Instagram about it (that's why there's a picture of one of my tattoos underneath the quote) and threw my support around the Sydney ladies who attended the protest about it today. I'm really glad to see young people getting proactive about issues that they care about. When I was younger, every time I had an issue my mum would make me write to my local Government about it. I wrote letters about how I thought it was sad that a farmer was shooting a rabbit on TV, I wrote letters about how the gutter next to my school was filled with rubbish and it smelled bad at lunch break, I wrote letters about all sorts of stupid little kid stuff. It was ridiculous and I'm sure it gave the dudes on the other end a good laugh looking at these handwritten letters by a six year old (they'd always send me back stickers and a letter and I think they did clean up the rubbish by my school) but it's really meant I've grown up with advocacy as just a part of my life. So I'm glad to see that other people have seized upon this. It sucks that this stupid blonde botox woman thinks she can look down on tattooed ladies. Especially when she's less 'natural' that we are. I think that Suicidegirls is an amazing force for good when it comes to promoting alt ladies. I think one day it'd be amazing to expand the reach my work has had beyond the reach of just this website. Maybe do a hardcover photo book of all my beautiful inked friends and publish it mainstream. I guess time shall tell.
I've been really sick this past week and it's been playing havoc with my body and my mind. I've had the flu but I also got food poisoning from some bad lamb. If you live in Australia, don't eat at Zambrero's. It was awful. Luckily, I pulled myself together to go out and have dinner (well... I was too queasy to eat but whatever) with these lovely SG hopefuls. All of whom will be getting some sets shot by @exkyu and me soon! We have @alexandra_elise and @unicorn__ and @twiggythespider yay. Also @pebblezink is coming to visit me tomorrow and we're going to do some shoots of her too! If you want to see all the recent shoots that have been happening down under then check this out.
It was the ten year anniversary of the release of the movie Mean Girls so I wore pink. It was great. Pink PJ bottoms and an SG top. I was so so sick the day I took this that I cropped out my face. Haha. I looked horrendous. Food poisoning is not a good idea when you're already sick, can I say.
I used my sick time to marathon Seasons 1 and 2 of Merlin which I've never seen before. I fucking love YA. The genre is amazing and I love how liberally the writers can use tropes and clichés and the audience knows no better because they've not gotten sick of those yet. Also ten points to the writers for passing the Bechdel test in like every single episode. Those female characters are awesome.
I'm also back into editing my own novel after my sick break. I have an idea for a new one too so that's pushing this one along (because I want to get on and write the next one). Thinking I might send this current one off for a professional structural edit before I bother any literary agents or publishers with it since it's my first completed manuscript. I guess I'll see how I feel once I'm done with this round of editing.
Here are my linky links seeing as there are so many newb friends:
