I love my Oliver wine. I just might be a wee bit drunk right now. But it has certainly been a productive drunkeness. Amid the fervor of the holiday season, the commercial push to horde and buy, I have taken to cleaning out my closet.
No, I'm not coming out. Though many insist that day is coming.
I am in a push to simplify. Goodwill just got two bags of clothes that I honestly was not going to wear again. I have a pyramid of other items to give away to those who might actually use them. And most importantly, I feel uplifted. clutter is one of those things that truly gets me down. A wise man once said, "The things you own end up owning you." Truer words have not been spoken.
The origins of this lie in my renewed itch to travel. Fuck, its full-blown travel fasciitis. In each of my travels, from London to Istanbul to Bishkek to Louang Prabang, the message is clear. Simplify. I've had no other experience engage me in my life so much as abandoning the physical confines of my comfort zone. I invite you to look around your own house and ask yourself what is truly important. I know I still have work to do myself.
