I spent the better part of today calling Jon (the person who had originally come out to do the estimate for my house - his was the phone# I had, he wasn't the one who came out to do the work). Since he wasn't the one who did the work, he said he'd have Victor (the one who did the work) call me. This happened 3 or 4 times, and by the mid afternoon when I still hadn't received a call, I went to the bank to put a stop on the check. Funny thing, after I told Jon that, I got a call from the main office soon after, and Victor called me directly after that.
He apologized, and told me that they found that they couldn't run the wires up the wall we had originally talked about from the basement to the attic (apparently there's some offset from the concrete blocks in the basement, and he can't drill down through the wall, he'd hve to go through the dining room floor). So instead of telling me that they were changing the work order (I was home at the time, he just would have had to call me down) he decided to drill out through the dining room wall and run the cable down the 6 inches to the ground. He did this without apparently knowing that the reason I needed the rewiring in the first place is that my association won't allow wires running through the walls (they just repaired and repainted the stucco on all the buildings).
The solution he gave me over the phone is less than adequate - he wants to cut a channel down the outside wall and shove the wire into it. I'm sure the association is going to be pissed about the 2 holes in the wall already (apparenltly, they must have missed with the 1st hole they drilled.
), so I don't think a 6 in channel in the new stucco is going to go over well either. My solution, which I would have said had I been told that they couldn't run the wiring up that wall from the basement, is to rerun it up a different, interior wall.
Victor is going to call me on Monday. If they are willing to come out and rerun the cable line that goes to the attic, and not charge me for it, then I will find that fully acceptable. If not, then I am not sure what I am going to do.
i hope i catch the bastard
