Nonviolent Sexuality
Got your attention didn't I?
I saw a flyer earlier this week on the tables at lunch and dinner titled "Nonviolent Sexuality. Make peace with your private parts." Needless to say, I was intrigued. I went last night with some of my fraternity friends. It was a very interesting talk. The usual "No means no and you can't use being drunk as an excuse." That being said, there was one point that caught my attention and made me think. What was this point you ask? Well, he began by talking about the controversial topic of pornography. Is it art? Is it porn? You can go to the museum and see the Statue of David and everything is okay. The human body is beautiful and each one is unique. So if it's not the nudity in porn that makes it so taboo then is it the sex? Sex is a natural thing nature gave us to keep the species alive. So if it's not the nudity and it's not the se then what is it about porn that is so controversial? He then went on to say the porn wires the brain to make people see things a certain way, to expect certain things from other people. This is what caught my attention.
I have to say that I agree with him. Pornography does wire the brain and people begin seeing things a certain way. He went on to say that it is okay to exploit sex, but not to talk about it. I was half listening while my mind wondered and it came to SG. This website that has nude models that apparently are brainwashing people into seeing things a certain way. You know what? I'm glad SG has hardwired my brain into seeing things differently. " Mainstream" (for lack of a better word) pornography shows that women have to fit a particular mold. Girls have to be blonde, skinny, with huge boobs, and god forbid if they have any body modifications! Suicidegirls is different.
I'm sure I don't have to go on to say how each model is different in her own unique way. Girls can be skinny or thick. They can have large or small boobs. They can have blonde, black, red, pink, blue colored hair. They can have piercings and tattoos, or no piercings with tattoos, or no tattoos with piercings, or no body modifications at all if they wish! So yes. Suicidegirls has hardwired people's brain into seeing things a particular way. AND THANK GOD!! Everyone has something beautiful about them and SG has worked hard to make that apparent to society. So thank you, SG for not being like [almost] every other porn site, magazine, movie, whatever.
That was the only thought provoking statement he had made. The rest was like every other sex talk given on a college campus, minus the preaching of abstenince. Of course th flyer said it was for Greeks and student athletes. I'm not Greek nor a student athlete and of course those are the only students on college campuses that have these issues. That is the most ignorant and discriminatory thing I've ever heard. What twats.
Tonight we are making push-ups. They are drinks with vodka, Sunny D, and Big Red that, as you may guess by the name, taste like push-pops. I'm excited. Tomorrow I must get up early and go on a 15 minute run. Then I'm headed to Cincinnati for my cousin's birthday dinner. I am staying the night in Cincinnati, which is odd since usually I'd attend the family obligation and then head back to Lexington. I want some time with my mom when she gets off work. I'll be back down in Lexington on Sunday and then start yet another week of classes. Thank god it's the weekend!!

these sexual debates always tend to go to the samen end... in our country the christian parties are getting more uptight at the moment ... proposing all kinds of laws for restriction etc... and we have such a free country now...
