You never really do know about people. I am always careful around the drunken customers at the bar, but after Saturday night, I think I may not be careful enough. I had a group of truckers that were passing through town an bunking at the truckstop down the road for the night come into the bar. I served them food and drinks all night and they were very respectful and chatty the entire time. Towards the end of the night, I was outback cleaning the tables and such on the patio while chatting with one of the regulars. One of the truck drivers came outside freaking out. He claimed something crazy was going on inside and that something terrible was going to come of it. I tried to calm him down and offered to go get him another beer. He grabbed me around my waist and was telling me to be careful when i went back in there. I am NOT a touchy feely person with people I don't know so I stepped back from him and said ok. I went in to get his beer an came back out to give it to him and get his money. He went and got a large edging rock from the lawn next to another buildikng of our bar and after I insisted he put it down, he set it on a table and started yelling about something coming. He came up to me, handed me the money for the beer and no sooner did I take the money, he had his hands around my throat. Luckily, I have some training in martial arts and was able to react quickly to break his hold and snap his arm back behind him in a painful contortion so he knew I meant bussiness. He backed off and started mumbling in the corner of the patio to himself. I do not know if he took something or was slipped something at some point in the night, but I do know alcohol was not the only thing in his system. I was so spooked by this that I could not sleep that night. That was only the second time in my life I have had to use my shotokan training in self-defense. I am gla I have the training for such instances, but at the same time, it scares the hell out out me that I actually have needed to use it.

I truly do think I have seen everything working in such a large bar and working at a nightclub a few years ago. In my experience, the drunks are even worse when the moon is full.
