this is Chula...
...she's my #1, O.G. babygirl, 7 years old now. she's been having problems with her back legs for years, but recently it's gotten much worse. the back legs are starting to drag/not work at all. what we thought was arthritis with a little hip dysplasia has turned out to be a degenerative spinal cord. she saw a neurologist the other day who said, although she's not in any pain, she'll continue to lose feeling/movement in her lower half. he said it's a syndrome mostly seen in German Sheperds, but he's seen it in a few pugs recently.
she's on a steroid/cortisone pill right now that's supposed to help. we'll see. there was a thing in the news the other day about paralyzed dogs responding to a new drug that's similar (chemically) to anti-freeze. i'm pretty sure that's only for dogs who've had a direct impact type of injury, though.
so, has anyone else out there had a dog with a similar problem? i'm looking for suggestions/recommendations for alternate, or additional therapies, supplements, etc. anything that will make life easier for her as this progresses.
please keep Chula in your thoughts, prayers, chants, incantations, wishes, or whatever it is you're into. she's cooler than most people.
