So, the 100+ degree streak broke.....
bad news: moisture = crickets rejoice
I found this cute little journal entry that explains it all, and here's an excerpt:
Plague #4 - You don't discover this one right away.. but CRICKETS. Oh I know, you're thinking "That's not so bad". Au contraire, mon frre. When I was a kid, I loved crickets. I thought they were cute. I'd even "rescue" crickets that had fallen on their backs by making little hollows in the grass and carefully sitting them upright with some tasty grass nearby for munching so their legs would start to work again and they could live. Not anymore. We moved to TEXAS. Once every few years, the crickets have domion over the land. They are EVERYWHERE. You go to the store and people are sweeping them up by the dozens into their little dustpans. They can get in the walls and come up between the wall and carpet and into the house. That summer, we averaged picking up about 60 crickets from our apartment floors every single morning. And most disgusting of all.. should you ever visit Texas during the cricket plague, whatever you do.. never NEVER look down in a parking lot. Never. Crickets everywhere. Crickets on parking lots. Cars on parking lots. Very disgusting. Eyes up and keep moving.
It's been a few years since the crickets have been around, but they normally wait until late September/early October. My kittens love hunting them down, so no crickets inside the house speaking of that, it's time to go feed my exterminator kitties.....
Love, peace, and bug repellant
