I've been cutting cactus in the desert. I been adjusting to being home every night staying up too late and the heat in the full on desert no shade. It was high 90's last week we worked our way in 6 miles to camp on the Douglas Springs trail right off of Speedway. Some of these days were real hot and we were hiking 8-10 miles to the work and back and working. I got the hang of it some days learning to drink 7 liters at work.
Being front country I haven't brought my camera to work yet as a knee jerk of disinterest. If I did I could of got some real great views of Tucson Speedway and Broadway from end to end east to west. It was a hot clear glareless day on Thursday and Tucson looks real dispersed a one story town. The Mesquite trees are such a lush green right now the distant trees make East Tucson look tropical. I also could of got some Mike chasing around a horny toad and picking it up to rub it's belly bare hand. The belly is smooth and the horny toad is one of the coolest and most regal looking animals ever. The toad didn't hate the belly rub, but didn't like being chased and picked up. It flared up and inflated it's body when set back down.
I saw a show Friday courtesy of a coworker in return for finding his money. The show was Tom Russell and it was real good. My coworker is once again friends with another folk legend type and recognizable as somewhat of a celebrity.
Easter, we shoveled shit out of the corral by the wheelbarrow and finished off Madrona. Bob found a Diamond Back on the road and took it off the road on a shovel. He caught a gopher snake and handled it for awhile. This tour went on and on and seemed to melt my mind in the heat. It's over now. It's end of season. Half the people finished work today. Had a party last night. I drank lots of beers smoked cigarettes and rode my bike pretty straight back home in 50 minutes at 3 AM.
Tomorrow, early AM, it's Baboquivari.
