I'm thankful for 7 day weekends. I spent the first 4 hiking and playing tour guide pretty exhausted and catching up on sleep as we went. It was cool to see the high elevations of the Rincon Mountains just 20 miles east and 1 mile above my apartment. We drank beer a lot in the day and it caused my to passed out snoring in the sun. I found a huge wad of cash just lying on the ground at Grass Shack but I know who it belongs to. Weird to find $592 cash wadded up in the backcountry. Once I got the guts to count it I took some photos.

Up at Manning Camp 8000 ft. I caught a Ringtail trying to steel my empty gas container late at night. I almost sleepily got a picture of it. Ringtails usually freak me out like raccoons as having no respect or proper regard for my stature. This one seemed alright by my standards running away and trying to be sly hanging low beneath the angle of my headlamp.

It's funny having cell reception in the backcountry. I finalized my summer job and turned down another position in the past two weeks talking on the cell while camping. That's kind of funny. I had doubts about turning down higher position at Olympic for the same position at North Cascades specifically and the whole appeal of WA jobs and backpacking in general.

I holed up for 2 days watched a 6 hour PBS miniseries on 45 years of Americanizing the West. It all looked so familiar. It wasn't that long ago. No cars but wagons and they had cameras. Systematically they destroyed everything in their way. It happened so fast it's crazy. 10-15 years a railroad, an cxplosion of population, towns popping everywhere and 60 million dead buffalo. Why hadn't I seen that before. It has everything to do with my American life and identity. I watched the Hours and Altman's Nashville as well. I like the library here.

Anyways things change I guess that's why I like the job. Instead of the 16 person 8 day crew party at 8000 ft planned for next tour. I'm working in town maintaining trails and coming home every night. Bummer. 2 months of straight backcountry work has treated me great but my backcountry time in AZ is over . Just like that. I might be able to use the city time to get my ready for my move in 4 weeks and further rest and analyse the state of my pinched cyatic nerve. Hopefully enjoy some sunny bike rides anyways.
