Yep. I haven't actually done black and am afraid to simply because of that reason 
I change my hair about every 3 weeks so the darkest I've gone is a dark brunette and when we stripped that out it totally ruined my hair.

For what it's worth, you look good blonde... well... you look good in every other hue of haor color as well but you get the point.
