St. John’s Relief
(Pain Reliever/Anti-Depressant)
You will need:
-32 oz. mason jar w/sealing lid
-Grinder w/strong teeth
-Scale
-Cutting board
-Cheese cloth or sifter
-12 oz. flavorless 80-90 proof alcohol (I use Jameson Irish whiskey, vodka works very well too)
-4 oz. Apple Cider Vinegar
-4 oz. St. John’s Wort, dried or fresh*
-4 oz. Dried passion flower
-4 oz. Dried psilocybin mushrooms**
Directions:
1. Start by grinding your herbs. A fine powder is what we’re after, but get as close as possible. If you’re using fresh St. John’s I recommend grinding the passion flower and mushrooms first, then adding them to a mortar & pestle set. Add the flowers last and crush everything together. The flower juices will mix nicely with the dried ingredients.
2. Place all the ingredients at the bottom of the mason jar.
3. Add alcohol & apple cider vinegar, seal the jar tightly.
4. Shake well.
5. Place your jar in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Try to shake the jar at least once a day or as often as possible. The mixture will be potent in 4 weeks and will continue to strengthen all the way up to about 9 months.
6. Remove the jar lid when ready and sift out solid ingredients w/ a cheese cloth or herb sifter.
Dosage Tips:
- 15-30 drops in a ½ cup of water goes a long way. Increase drops or reduce water level for a stronger dose.
-Dropper bottled really come in handy. Most CVS phramacies carry them in a variety of sizes.
-Psilocybin will not show up on a standard 5-panel drug test. I knew many U.S. Marines who micro-dosed while bodybuilding and combat training (Marines are drug tested randomly & frequently).
-You can adjust the amount of herbs and alcohol/ACV, but after much trial and error I’ve found that this ratio is most effective. I would highly recommend that whatever amount of herbs you choose to use, add them all at equal weight. Balance is what we’re after.
-I’ve never heard of anyone overdosing on herbs, but use at your own risk.
*There’s an ongoing debate about which one is more effective at treating depression: Fresh St. John’s Wort or dried. In my opinion, the fresh flower is more potent when eaten raw but the dried flower is more effective in an herbal tincture. Fresh St. John’s can also be more difficult to find.

**Which type of mushroom to use is the million dollar question. I’ve used high, medium and low-potency specimens and in my opinion the medium-low variety works best. Herbal tinctures work best when the ingredients complement each other and one is not overpowering the others. For this reason I would recommend using either Siam Reap (Cambodia) or Mazatapec (Oaxaca, Mexico).
