Today when I went into work, I found out that my boss had quit. Apparently there was some decision that he wasnt happy with (and hes been frustrated in general for while) so he just said I quit and walked out on the spot. He was the secretary to the Education Department Chair and I was his assistant. So today Ive basically been taking over his job. I know some of the things he used to do, but not nearly everything, so its been a day of firsts for me. People are coming up with all kinds of requests and Im doing my best to fulfill them. Also, I have no idea whats going to happen in the future. Ive been trying to get a full-time job at DePaul for a while now. One of the benefits is two free classes a quarter, so that would basically mean a free education for me. But I just cut down my week from 40 to 25 hours so I could spend more time on my school work. Im totally jumping the gun though I havent been offered anything yet, and if I was, Im not sure if Id take it. A few people here have told me they think Id be a good candidate. One things for sure though Im not taking on all this work for the same amount of money!

Okay, I just got out of a meeting with the Chair and the Operations Manager and we came up with a sort of middle ground for me. Instead of completely taking over my boss job, Im going to fill in for him (with a $3.50 raise!) until they find a replacement. So that means Ill have a full time position from now until probably mid-summer. This works out really well for me because Ill have more responsibility and more money, but I wont have the pressure of a permanent full time position. They need a professional secretary anyway, not a student. Im really going to miss my boss - he was great in so many ways but he wasnt happy here, so its probably a good thing he walked out. I hope this works out for me! Well see
