We got tickets to meet Tori Amos!
For some reason, I thought it was yesterday, but it is actually on March 16th. It makes me all tingly to thinking about meeting Tori - Ive been listening to her and admiring her for over ten years (wow, I cant believe its been that long!). In order to get the tickets, you had to buy her new book or her new CD, so Dan bought the CD for himself and got me a copy of the book. To be honest, I wasnt particularly interested in it If I like a musician I usually just focus on their music rather than their personal life. But then again, its Tori and she always has interesting and quirky things to say, so Ill get around to reading it eventually.
On an entirely different note, I am starting a research project on LGBT and questioning students. I am particularly interested in the high drop-out rate and risk of failure due to bullying, harassment, etc. Ive contacted a few places, like GLSEN and Howard Brown Foundation, but if anyone has any insight, input or ideas, I welcome it! I care a lot about this issue, and I want to be able to help all students feel safe and respected at school.
While I am on the subject, today is Silent Solidarity Day. A number of students on my campus (and hundreds of schools nationwide) are taking a vow of silence to show support for people who feel they dont have a voice - such as LGBT individuals, abused women and children, migrant workers and others who have been silenced by oppression. Just doing my part to raise awareness!
