i saw a man get killed tonight.
i was driving down irving park, just west of central, when this car sped in front of me going probably over 100mph. it swerved, hit something, nearly tipped over and continued speeding down the street. there were cars blocking my view, but i could see people on the street with shocked expressions on thier faces. as i drove past i saw the crumpled heap of a man lying partially under a parked van. he wasn't moving, and judging from the position of his limbs, i don't think there's any way he could have survived. i was in shock for several seconds, then i managed to take my phone out and call 911. i told them what i saw and they said they'd send paramedics over. i went over to meet daniel for a moment to drop something off, and when i saw him i started crying. of course i know that anyone can die at any moment, but there's nothing that can prepare you for it when you actually SEE it happen to an innocent person. i keep thinking about that guy, who he was, and what he left behind when his life was cut short.
i'm crying now as i write this. i think it's going to take some time to get over it.
daniel said that this is why it is so important to live life to the fullest, and he's right. we have to appreciate it while we have it, cause there is no telling when it might get taken away.
