If you've never seen the documentary, Endless Summer, you should definitely look into it. I don't really want to say that you should invite friends over and pop corn and all that but, for a solitary experience, it can't be beat.
Oh - also, you should be very very high.
I care fuck-all about surfing but I'll be damned if I wasn't riveted.
The concept basically is this: A young surfing filmmaker follows two pro surfers around on their 'round-the-world surf trip. They are following the summer from surfable continent to continent. They go to Africa and drive thousands of miles along it's coast and surf on beaches that have probably never even had footprints in the sand. Oh - and this is the mid-sixties by the way, which is where 80 percent of the appeal lies. That and the generic surf music.
I stumbled across it on AMC while I was flipping last week and the rest is history. It's just a perfect cozy little movie. It's kitschy and funny and it makes me want to be a 1960s surf boy.
A few words about Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind:
Kate Winslet's Clementine is a composite of at least 4 of my exgirlfriends. I had never related so directly to any character in any movie EVER as I did to Jim Carrey's. I've been with so many over-sensitive, brilliant, psychotic, depressed, genius, sociopaths that I could write a coffee table book called Crazy Bitches and Why I Can't Resist Them on the subject. One of the creative forces behind ESotSM HAD to have also dated this particular breed of delicious damaged goods because the movie nails it.
Likewise, Jim Carrey nailed me with every "shhh" in a crowded restaraunt and every insecure accusation of infidelity. Nailed it man.
Kirsten Dunst does a lot of braless bouncing around in underwear too. If you're into that kind of thing. And I think you are.
