Ever have one of those days that was just doomed to be a bad one? This was one of those days...
I wake up this morning (and that was only the START of the bad day!!!), and for some reason I was in a really fowl mood. I'm still not sure why, but I was just in a very solemn kinda mood. Well, I get in the car and start to head into town to get coffee before I go to work, and I'm pretty sure every other driver on the road this morning was out to make me even more upset than I was when I woke up. Every car I saw this morning managed to do something that ticked me off.
Now, that doesn't happen often. I'm the kind of driver that simply enjoys driving, and usually anything someone else does that might set me of is completely offset by the fact that I'm enjoying driving more than they're pissing me off. This morning was just not like that apparently. In any event, I managed to get to work without hurting my car, or running anybody off the road, which is a good thing, I suppose.
Now when I do get to work, I figure I'll just relax for a bit before anything major starts happening and that should calm me down enough to get through the day. For some reason, that didn't work either, even by the time things started getting busy, I was still in a fowl mood.
In fact, it was so bad that when one of my co-workers (who likes to joke around a LOT) looked at me and said, "Well, I'm in one of those moods where I can either be really happy and goofy all shift, or I can be really angry and violent for the rest of the shift... any preference?"
I actually looked at him and in the most dead-pan voice I could manage said, "Honestly, it wouldn't make one lick of difference which way it went."
"Wow....... you really are in a bad mood aren't you?"
Now, unfortunately, we have a trainee working in Ground Control for the next little while. This means that he has to work the position from 8am-4pm every day, and all day he has someone qualified sitting behind him who can correct any of the mistakes he makes through the shift.
This poor guy is actually really nice, and I can tell he'll fit in with the rest of the crew quite well, so long as he's good at his job. However, he only started working in Ground Control yesterday, which means he's still a little gun-shy when it comes to talking on the radios, and he hasn't gotten quite enough experience that I can just sit back and vaguely keep an eye on things.
Even more unfortunate for this poor gentleman is the fact that I was the one monitoring him this morning. Not so bad, except when you take in my particularily bad temper today. I was just an ass to him all day, and honestly, I got so bad at some points that I had to appologise to him on a couple occasions.
To be fair, he does have something of an arrogant side to him, and at times forgets that when he's being monitored, even by someone who he will out-rank in a few months, he can't be the cocky prick that he is sometimes. Basically there are just times when he crosses a line or two that really shouldn't be crossed with one that has the power to lengthen your misery while trying to qualify. Anyway, by the time I had finally gotten to work this morning, I had determined that should any of those moments arise, I was going to set him in his place quite firmly and without any question as to where his respect should lie.
On one of these occasions, my co-worker was asking why I was in a bad mood because, "I live a very boring life, I need to live vicariously through my younger friends!"
"Ahh, I see, here I thought you cared and such, but in fact you're just looking for excitement?"
At that point, my trainee stepped in at the wrong time, "No no, he really does care, or at least if he doesn't then I do."
This irked me considering I have no real friendship with this guy, I have no desire to be his friend. We get along well at work and that's all that's really needed. So I looked at him, paused for a half-beat and said, "Yeah, but the difference between you and him caring, is I don't give a damn if you care."
And that wasn't even one of the times I had to appologise... poor guy, he'll get through it and all, but I could tell there was a time or two I got a little nasty.
ANYway! I finally finish my shift, and I'm all stoked to finally get home and ignore the rest of the world for a bit.... until I realize that I've been tasked with teaching a Ramp Defensive Driving course... Guh! Now, I've never done one of these, so the same co-worker I was with on shift was with me in the class room to sort of evaluate how I did, offer his own little pointers to the class, etc. etc. etc.
To be honest it didn't go that bad. I got through it and only forgot a couple minor points that I did want to bring up. And besides, at the end of it, I got to take a couple of the 'students' out on the airfield so they could get a chance to use the radios, learn some of the 'RT' (Radio Terminology)... that kinda thing. And I always like driving on the airfield.
So I finally get home FINALLY! And it was like 4 o'clock now... I was supposed to be home by 1! GRR! And when I get home, I find my roomie working on his car... hrm... I like working on cars. So I hand him his coffee (which I so graciously bought after work), and learned that he was re-wiring some of the accessories that he's gotten on the car. I enjoy figuring out electronics and what-not, so I got changed and joined him outside.
Well, it took us two hours to finally get the two things that we were working on wired up properly, and we still didn't get them wired the way we had initially planned... however it all works so far, and tomorrow night we get to wire up a few more lights and we'll be done.
Point being that that two hours of figuring shit out, testing theories, revamping ideas, and FINALLY figuring out the wiring properly did a world of good to aleviate my intensly fowl temper. To be honest, I can't believe we got it working properly... we tried so many ideas that we had to go back to the FIRST plan we had before we tried to change everything. But it's all done, now, it's all working, and the wiring is SO much more effecient than it was before. YAY us! Okay, so I'm happy now... I think I'll go for a drive later.
If you missed the updates on the last entry, I've finally got a bunch of pics from the "Weekend of Drink" in my pics folders. Hope you enjoy them, and sorry for all the negativity in this update, but I really had to get it all out.
