Blog Homework: Tell Us A Love Story

HEY SG!!
Oh man I was pretty stocked to see this assignment and I haven't done any homework in a while. As you may recall in my previous entry, I mentioned telling you all about my ex/best friend. I said I'd tell you the story one day, well that day has come. You see, not all love stories will have this "and they lived together happily ever after, at least mine doesn't, and that's ok. It's a love story none-the-less.
So to be cliche....
Once upon a time, a long time ago, 16 years ago to be exact. I was working at one of my first "real jobs" (hold the snark) at a telemarketing scheme. I started dating this cute guy and we hung out all the time at his best friends house, we'll call him Fresh. Everyday we'd meet up, smoke some weed and I'd watch them make music. Fresh & I became friends over time. We'd go to the mall, get a pretzel and people watch. No judging, we lived in a small town. Once I found out I was pregnant right before my 18th birthday- life changed. Fresh was one of the only people that treated me no differently. We hung out a few times, it was great, but you know life happens. We lost contact, for 5 years. But alas.. I told you this was a love story.

Fast forward, I moved back to Utah from Colorado. I was contacted by a friend on Facebook reaching out to reconnect. She mentioned a bar and if I remembered Fresh. She told me that he was now the resident DJ and he was playing that weekend.
That was the night that everything changed. I knew I'd reconnect with a friend, but little did I know that he'd become the greatest love I've ever known. The whirlwind love-story that continues to this day.

So Fresh and I were inseparable after that night. We dated 1.5 year before what caused me to move from CO decided to make my life hell. I had ovarian cancer. I was told I needed to have surgery to remove the multiplying masses out of my ovaries or look into chemo treatments and pray they worked. The nurse told me my insurance wouldn't cover the surgery fully, it was going to cost this unbelievable amount. Fresh and I went home with a heavy heart and troubled mind. Hours later, I got a phone call from the nurse informing me that if I had a life changing event I'd qualify for this other full coverage insurance. "You know, if you had an additional dependent, say a child or spouse. I wanted you to know. We also bill out 30 days, so if something changes, there's time" she said to me. I obviously wasn't going to be having a child any time soon... then it hit me. I said to Fresh jokingly, "well, we could just get married."
Later that night, during our nightly stroll through our favorite subreddits, he kissed me, held me, grabbed my hand and put a peach ring on my ring finger. "I'll marry my best friend, that I will forever love to save her life. Don't have to ask me twice." neither one of us were fond of marriage- we both believe being monogamous is unnatural. So we decided that we'd make somewhat of a mockery of the whole thing. We got rings from the clearance section at Wal-Mart, we took a mutual friend and drove down to Las Vegas. In jeans & a t-shirt we got married through a drive-through by Elvis & his fat cat. We told ourselves it wasn't serious, but we did love each other. The after party of that night is a different story of epic proportions that I'll spare you here.

(on man i was so fat. but here's a picture of our wedding night. his shirt is epic it says "ass & titties. ass & titties. ass, ass, titties, titties, ass & titties. and im wearing a TITS shirt from their "wifey" brand. hilarious)
Surgery was successful. Yet again, another story maybe. But what the whole process did to us changed our relationship forever. Now may I remind you, this isn't a fairy tale. Things weren't all rainbows and sunshine everyday. We went through a lot of bullshit, we hurt each other, a few ties. It took us a long time to just be honest with each other, but more importantly ourselves. In 2014 we got divorced. He moved on, I moved to San Francisco and eventually moved on. The line blurs for us at times, some chemistry/energy you can't ignore. We're still really close. We still love each other enough to know we just can't be together. I still have a friend that understands me like nobody else in this world does. I can tell him anything and everything, knowing he'll be real and not judge me. I will forever love him and support his music. Sometimes loving someone truly and unconditionally means not being with them. But it will forever be my great love story.

this was from our reno trip when we slept in my car, in the middle of where burningman is held. it was maybe 6am lol.

There's the cliff-notes version of my epic love story. Thanks for giving me a place to be myself and share with you all. I appreciate all the love and support.
