Well it's time for a new blog.
Microsoft opened a new store in Portland and part of the grand opening ceremonies was a free concert with Weezer. The first 200 in line got passes to meet Weezer, so I lined up the night before, and spent about 11 hours living like a homeless person, only to be number 207! Oh, well, I still got two tickets (wrist bands) for the show on Friday the 21st at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Only the people with wrist bands were allowed to attend the show, and the Microsoft store only gave out 2200 of them, so it was a pretty small crowd, for such a big band. Before I review the show, I need to mention that I am a huge fan of Weezer, and have been for years. I have begged borrowed and stole to get tickets every time they have come to Portland, and so I have a good base of experience to base my opinion on. Every time in the past when Weezer had come to town, they have been touring behind a new album, and have been contractually obligated to play music from the new album--except this time! So the show as 1 hour and 50 minutes of Weezer's Greatest Hits, Live! They played every song that ever got the slightest bit of air play, and they totally rocked the big hits like Buddy Holly, and Beverly Hills. Some fans made a bunch of comments about them selling out, but this is simply one of the best shows I have ever been to. It is easily as good as any show I have ever seen. It is now on the same level as Garbage at the Roseland Theater in 2001, and the Violent Femmes at La Luna in 1991, both shows my previous bench mark for measuring shows. So needless to say I had a great time.
