Hello Everyone!
Well another Spring Beer Fest is in the bag, and I managed to make it through without puking! Always a good thing in my book. I have become somewhat jaded though with beer since my last vacation in Belgium so this fest was a bit of wash for good European styles. Most of the micro brews in Portland are going badly IPA. It is just about all they can figure out how to brew, and if they do any other style they louse it up with a bunch of dry hopping or they use the wrong yeast and it tastes like crap.
What was to be high point of my weekend was seeing my new favorite local band, Kleveland, live at Dante's. However this did not happen, do to the drunken misjudgments of my friend Rich (late forties, no job, living with is parents, same girlfriend for 15 years--will never get married), who was functioning rather poorly as the designated driver. Oh a bit of an aside, designated drivers here in Portland, are not like those in other places, it is typically someone with a good car and that can drive better than the rest of the people while drunk...But that is another matter, back to the reason I did not see my favorite band live: Rich figured out that the band was playing second and that meant that despite the first band going on at 9:00 that we did not need to leave the 'fest, much before 10:30, and after parking we, had just time to here 1.5 songs form Kleveland before they finished up! This would not really bother me, however I kept telling him (starting around 8:45), come-on lets go. And he just kept stopping and bullshitting with every drunk crumb he met, and saying "there the second band we have time." So, I think I will just take the Max, and forget about my former friend, and his chronic procrastinating.
On a positive note, I have two tickets to see Kleveland open for X at the Crystal Ballroom next Saturday, If any of you (females please) would like the extra ticket just let me know, we can meet up before the show for a few drinks or maybe dinner...Who Knows.
