Woke this morning to a phone call I wasn't necessarily ready to take. My uncle Robert, my grandmother's little brother, died in his sleep last night. We're not completely sure how or why, yet. He's been sick off and on, battled prostate cancer, has had alot of problems with his legs, his age WAS catching up to him. Despite all of this, he remained happy and jolly as ever.
I had gone to see him with my grandmother a month or so ago. And it had been literally years since I'd paid him a visit at home. I'm so very happy I had that chance to see him, talk to him, tell him about my life and my happiness. He was my favorite uncle, he used to call me Nelson, Lindsay Nelson. I'll miss him terribly and my heart breaks for my poor grandmother, she's an absolute wreck.
But our family is strong and will stick together through this. He was loved, he was a good man, lived a good life, and was one of the most geuinely happy people I've ever had the privilege of knowing.
I love you, Uncle Robert. I'll always be your Nelson.
Robert Hansen RIP
