THE GREATEST CANADIAN
probably the oddest thing to say considering we like to think we are a modest nation. but this series has reinforced my support of the CBC. I'm proud to say my taxes pay for this unbiassed news station that offers so much. News, music, entertainment, supports independent Canadian products, etc. Just take a look at the quality stuff he brings out like CBC Radio 3.
i have yet to see any product/production of quality the American government has made themselves. they sell it to corporations who then pump it with corporate steroids. (okay I'm turning political again, back to subject...)
Only to add to the greatness of the CBC, George Stroumboulopoulos has joined its ranks. the CBC is showing its diversity and hopefully this young outspoken political, journalist and music-guru will bring more of Canada's youth to the political and cultural scene. he is the next David Suzuki.
i just watched the final pitch effort by advocats of canada's top ten great citizens. at leat five of them deserve a lot of respect and recognition.
Terry Fox
Pierre Trudeau
Lester B. Pearson
David Suzuki
Tommy Douglas
in my opinion these people represent what essentially is canada. they embody the spirit of the canadians in many different ways.
i was split between Tommy Douglas and David Suzuki. Both have strong values that I support. Tommy Douglas is the all canadian socialist. the father of the health-care act. david suzuki is the adopted father of our beloved land.
i ended up voting for david suzuki because his vision for the future of canada is somethign i hold dearly to. i guess in a way it is unfair however because he is one of the few on that top ten list that is still alive.
i urge everybody to read everything on this site and vote for your favorite canadian.
somehow i hope W. Bush will hear of this vote. see what kind of person us canadians value. who we think represent us the most. send him a message.
oh and i think we should remove the queen from the 20 dollar bill and put the winner of this contest (so far it looks like Tommy Douglas) on the back of it. The queen represents nothing that is canadian.

I agree with your top 5. I was having a hard time picking but I think you're right with David Suzuki. He should get it for being an extrordinary international humanitarian, environmentalist and educator.
Are you going tomorrow?

But i can't believe that Don Cherry made the list, but even more unbelievable is that there are no women at all! Don Cherry and not one woman?
But George is cool. He totally sold me on Tommy. Although that's really the only one I watched so I guess it's kinda biased.
