OK so I'm stealing the wonderful IAmFromTheFuture's internets while he's at class. At home all I have is my shitty laptop which cannot handle this website AT ALL. I spent $50 to get my account reinstated 7 months ago and haven't been able to use it hardly ever. It's annoying. But my interest in naked girls has kind of waned lately, as it's wont to do, so I guess it's not that terrible.
Life is... lifelike? I don't know. Things happen. Some are good. Some are bad. Either way time passes, and there's nothing to be done for it.
I got a promotion at work, which was good (can anyone argue with a $2 raise, 40 hrs a week & benifits for doing essentially the same job with a little more paper work?), and has complicated things considerably. It's no fun being in a position that causes you to be hated by both your staff and your superiors. It's even less fun knowing that really you can do nothing about either situation.
I was going to go back to art school this spring but thanks to the aformentioned promotion those plans got pushed back to sometime in the unforseen future. I just don't have the resources to work on anything art-like right now, which is pretty depressing. I used to at least sketch ideas, and now I don't even do that. I feel like I'm losing the creative part of myself, or maybe it's not even something so permanent. Maybe it's just hibernating. I fear the former, hope for the latter, but ultimately I won't know until I get my ass back to art school.
Um, on an up note I saw a slew of pretty amazing concerts since the last time I wrote in this box.
July brought two pretty kick ass shows; Art Brut & the White Rabits early in the month and The White Stripes & Dan Sartain towards the end. It was my third time seeing Brut, and IAmFromTheFuture's first. Fucking great show, despite the setlist being a decent part new material which is kinda flat compared to Brut's debut record. White Rabbits were a pleasant surprise and a joy to watch. Easily the second best show of the year. Wish I could say the White Stripes were as good. I'd seen them twice before, and I was expecting magic. Though the set was amazing (they played just about every song I've ever hoped to hear but never expected, as well as a fucking Beatles teaser) and the venue was pretty small, their energy was lacking. When you're dealing with a two man band that makes a big difference in show quality. I did get to snag a now much-sought after Rob Jones print though, which is a plus. That fucker's already worth three times what I paid for it.
In August I had the pleasure of taking my little brother to see his favourite band, Incubus. It was his first show, and having been an Incubus fan when I was his age I was looking forward to it too. The Bravery did a good job opening, and although I didn't have the best time (I have a serious issue with all seated venues) my brother was beyond ecstatic for weeks afterwords.
October was the best month for shows by far. After a year of quietly adoring Patrick Wolf's music I finally got to see him in concert. It was my best show of the year, no doubt about it. The set was long and amazing, the banter was funny, sweet and insightful, and he took fucking requests. I can't say enough good about this show, or this musician. That night was pretty much as close to magic as real life gets. I also had the pleasure of seing Klaxons in October. This show was at the same venue as Patrick Wolf's, but the atmosphere was decidedly different that night. People were rude, violent, and above all fucking crazy. The band was in top form though, played every song they've got (and opened with the song IAmFromTheFuture was convinced they wouldn't even play, hee ) and despite being at the end of their US tour seemed to be having a good time.
I saw Art Brut a 4th time in November, but they only played an 35 minute opening set before The Hold Steady so it wasn't anything really worth noting. I stuck around for THS and was surprised to find that after all the great things I've heard about them they were totally uninteresting. What's all the fuss about? All I can think is that it's amazing how the indie press can hype the shit out of such a boring fucking band.
Buh.
I could talk and talk and talk about things but I'll be the first person to admit that I'm just not that interesting.
