Well I am sure many of you know about the blockade of Cuba and have heard about its effects, but have you experienced 1st hand what Cubans struggle through every day to maintain their sovereignty, Social Justice; their socialist economic system? Well here's a chance to roll up your sleeves and support Cuba with a little elbow grease and lots of learning experience, come join the 2014 Ernesto Che Guevara Brigade!
The Brigade is a volunteer work group as well as an educational excursion and vacation wrapped together into a multifaceted experience of Cuba and how the Cuban people continue to develop a socialist economic system in the dynamics of the post-Cold War era while being blockaded by the world’s most powerful economy the u.s. Every year the Brigade visits different provinces this year we will visit Havana City Province as well as Villa Clara and Sancti Spiritus Province, which will provide us opportunities for hiking in the mountains, visiting world renowned historical areas pristine beaches and taking part in the annual May Day rally that is one of the largest in the world! You can see full details in the program in the link below as well as find more details about past expeditions and what to expect. The program runs for 3 weeks with the cost estimated to be around 1100 dollars: not included is the cost of your flight to and from Toronto, the Jose Marti Airport Tax (25cuc) and anything extra outside of the provisions of the program I.E. if you decide to explore other regions not covered in the program or don’t want to eat or sleep with what the program provides. There is a possibility for subsidizing this cost further (available to Calgary applicants through the generous Calgary chapter of the Canada Cuban Friendship Association) if financial problems are the main obstacle rather then will: though this will only be provided if you register right away as I have been informed that prices go up the closer one approaches to the departure date without booking.
At any rate there is time until details get finalized and once they do I will organize a public meeting to help clarify and solidify our group as part of the Brigade, you can register through me or apply directly through the webpage to find the nearest brigade to you in the link below.
Hope to see you on May Day in Havana!!
In Solidarity
