French Riots IDM
"This rebellion ties in with what is brewing within the French working class. It
is a challenge to the trade union movement, to the Socialist and Communist
parties, who must not ignore such an important movement. If asked to choose
between these courageous, combative, defiant, youth in revolt despite all
their faults due to their political inexperience and their lack of organisation
and the hardened representatives of capitalism who have sent the CRS against
them, we have no problem in deciding where we stand.
When Franois Hollande [a leader of the French Socialist Party] refuses to
demand the resignation of Sarkozy, under the pretext of not wanting to encourage
the riots, he does nothing but encourage Sarkozy himself. Having said that, the
resignation of Sarkozy is not enough. We must demand the resignation of the
whole government that is to say the immediate calling of new parliamentary
elections."
Again its not that I am against what they have stated in theory, but in such an
extrordinary reality as this expanding riot in france and by their own accounts
the very restistance to this movement on the representative left or the neglect
of reporting on how deep the counter revolutionary resistance goes within the
trade union movement or CPF(in which you can get a good idea of divergence from
the SEP article with the CPF at least, though not so clear on any divergence
within the trade unions, as the SEP presents no divergence) makes me question
the reasoning behind calling another election, afer all is not the established
parties of the left in france discredited by their past governments(if not their
present stance ion the insurrection) they formed that their should be no calls
for opportunities for them to take office again, not without a real chance that
representatives of this rebellion were to get elected into office- and I cant
see that happeing without a coordinated effort beetween the fragmented
trotskiast goups and any other organisation that supported this insurection.
This is the arrogancy I see in this statement in general, especially how they
state "If asked to choose between these courageous.......we have no problem in
deciding where we stand."
HEY guess what them rioting is basically asking you to take a stand with them,
Alan were you not the one chiding other Trotskiasts for not "diving into
revolution for Chavez in Venezuela" spare us the hot air of your organisations
ego and present us a program of action to move forward in this situation, which
would include not calling for elections to see the same people who have
supported oppression of the youth in the present and past, unless you have
yourself on the table a revolutionary program INCLUDED following that call for
an election, but wait what do they have as said program:
"Today, our task as Communists is to patiently explain to each youth, straight
and to the point, to each worker, to every unemployed person and pensioner
that capitalism means permanent social regression, and that there is no other
means of reversing this tendency as long as the banks and big business remain
under the control of the capitalists. We must extend our hands in solidarity to
these youth in revolt; explain to them that no riot, no matter how large and
widespread, will be able to solve their problems. We must invite them to get
organised with us, to consciously prepare and seriously struggle for the
overthrow of capitalism."
!?!Really do we have to "patiently explain to them that capitalism mean
permanent social regression", they have burned over 6000 cars, does it seem like
these "children" dont understand the regressive nature of capitalism on some
part more then what Sir Oxley would condescend(or even the nature of private
property, that they just might understand on some level that bourgeoise state
property is not socialist "collective" property that could be a big part of
burning buses and schools)?
The second half of this statement if I were to guess differes little from the
"Stalinist" organisations in France statement on this insurection if not any arm
chair marixist organisation that call for "organisation with us for the
revolution", The WSWS at least gives us a real glimpse on political obstacles in
the way of potential revolutionaries wanting to support the insurection, within
the left itself no less- this at least gives you a tool to help resolve the
ability to tackle the political problem, let alone actually tackling the
political problem- wihch IDM has not even come close to proposing, let alone doing!
All in all it really is quite a shame as the article starts off quite well in
its analysis of the situation and underlying causes, and refuting many of the
lies and distortions of the mass media convey (which is always helpful); but
when it comes ot an actual program to move forward, they melt into the
background of steoryotypical sectarian programs that show us the way
forward.....which leads to their own little organisation, well God Bless Queen
Rosa Luxemberge hallejuah I have seen the light!

I thought communism was by nature international....although the only successful example of communism I've seen/lived is on a local level - a kibbutz near Jericho
