The Festival
Coachella was great. I saw almost everybody I wanted to see.
Quickly:
Gnarls Barkley were amazing live. This was their very first performance and it was one of the highlights of the festival.
Seu Jorge was one of my favourite sets. They charmed the surprisingly small crowd into dancing. I found myself getting a little dance on, and I'm not normally the dancing type.
Lady Sovereign. My god what a perfect set! Best set I saw all festival. "It's orange, not Oh-ran-ge."
Imogen Heap was outstanding. Reminded me of a New Buffalo set I saw a few months back.
Amadou & Mariam were fantastic. Amadou rocks the guitar. Dance dance dance.
I checked out a whole lot more, but I'm too lazy to list it all. I didn't take any pictures of bands this year; instead I experienced them. It was a much superior festival than in the past due to this.
I saw who I think was the Vau de Vire Society perform in The Do Lab. I had been hoping to catch them all festival as I'd heard they were incredible. I never did find out if it was indeed them, but whoever it was put on an incredible show. It was just so captivating and interactive. I loved it. Best part of the weekend.
The Trip
Sacramento was gorgeous, as always. We checked out Silent Hill one of the days we were there. It was an okay movie I suppose... Looked great, though! There was a woman with three young children in the theatre. In the lobby after the movie, they were arguing "No, she stabbed her there!" "No, it was here!" and stabbing eachother. I didn't know if I should laugh or mentally scold.
The desert cities were great. We rented a unit in "Desert Breezes", a gated community. The place was massive, pool, hot tub, tennis courts, basketball. It was nice to live large for a weekend. We got lost trying to find the place. We kept finding ourselves in the wrong city. Cross the street and you're in La Quinta. But I got a girl's phone number while lost in Palm Desert. Of course it was so we could help eachother find our respective lodgings for the night, I still got her number.
Portland was great. So laid back and easy to get around. Everybody was up for conversation there! The hostel has an eco-roof. Definately have to look into getting one of those at HI-Calgary.
