Monday will be my last day to vegetate. Tuesday the horrible month of Hell begins.
1) I'm about 2 weeks behind in my own job.
2) The department's clerk is on a 2+ week vacation. I'm the only person who knows how to do most of her job, so I'm getting saddled with it (handling incoming levies and garnishments).
3) My co-worker, who does the exact same job as me, is on a 1+ week vacation. While both her phone and the clerk's phone are forwarded to my manager, if he doesn't answer, I'll get the calls.
4) The Marketing department called a week ago looking for a single number for my department to publish in our monthly newsletter. There is no such number, we each have our own and that's it. I looked at what the number would be in reference to, and believed that the number of calls would not be too many, so I volunteered my number thinking I could field these calls. I called my manager who was on vacation at the time and informed him of this situation, he commended me. However...
5) This last week I find out that in addition to the monthly newsletter, the Northwest Airlines Mechanics Strike will have an impact on our business and as a result the President of the company is sending them a letter offering help. Among the few numbers offered is my number. Apparently, my manager thought this letter was what I was talking about and gave the go ahead to give it out for this letter as well. The placement of my number in the body of the letter, pretty close to our main numbers, means I'll probably be inundated with calls that have nothing to do with:
a) my job
b) my co-worker's job
c) the clerk's job
d) the NWA letter or
e) the newsletter
Like I said. Couple weeks or so of HELL. When everyone is back and working again on 8/19, I then get to try to spend the next two weeks catching up on my own work.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, this is the last month of a quarter, so there is extra work involved in my job responsibilities... work that must be done by 9/13 at the latest. HELL HELL HELL
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Is there any way they could quickly make your number a general line and get you a new extension?? There's gotta be something...
If all esle fails, just start polishing a gun while you're sitting at your desk. That's how I got my raise.
Deep breaths, my friend. Deep breaths...
