Your Life Counts - Reasons 2 Live campaign was launched February 14th. I've always been very open about my journey to wellness. For well over a decade my diagnosis has been evolving with each episode and currently rests as Bipolar Disorder Type 1, or Schizoaffective Bipolar Type depending on the hospital. Treatment is the same. I also have generalized anxiety, EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) "recovered" and a recovered self harmer which planted me under the umbrella of Borderline Personality Disorder. The amount of medications I take to keep me running is enough that they have to blister pack it for me weekly so I can navigate the days and dosages without screwing it up. There have been days I almost didn't live through on account of my own actions. Balance is a tightrope walk and my safety net is an amazing support group comprised of friends, family, and doctors. These amazing, strong, stubborn, loving people have watched my balance falter and have caught me when I inevitably fell. There are not words in the world to properly express my gratitude. It's because of their care that I am alive today. And cats.
Mental health needs to be treated with the same attention and care as physical health. Your brain is an organ, a physical thing, and when something goes wrong in it clinical care is required. You don't ask someone to think their way through a heart attack.
My hope starting right now is that you feel safe enough to talk to me, about anything. You are free from judgement I just want to wrap you up in love because you fucking matter.
