An Ernest Hemingway quote I came across last night:
Every mans life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another
I want how I live and die to mean something--for my life to be distinct. It's unlikely that I'll ever reach the public eye, or be any kind of hero, but if how I live and die has meaning to me, and to the people I impact, it will be worth it. I don't want to give in to the pressure that says I must fit in. Fitting in is no virtue. It's a way of hiding, and I want to have nothing to hide.
The first step of social responsibility is to recognize that everybody has an impact, and that it's probably greater than we will ever know. Next step is to make that impact count for something that matters.
