The monty hall problem is a real classic and one of my favourite ponderances. Just read a paper that I somehow missed for the last 5 years that has a pretty fun premise. Good reminder that intuition is not always to be trusted. are birds smarter than mathematicians?

Twitter suggested that I follow Tony Abbott.

Turn my back on what's staring us in the face? Or just walk backwards like he is? It would be too dangerous. The ground is much less even behind us and we've struggled so hard to get as far as we have. I'd get caught up trying to step over the people he's already knocked down. And he's...

Have been having trouble sleeping lately, so for the last 2 weeks I've been obsessively absorbing knowledge and trying to gain a new set of skills, distinct from what I do in my day job but quite closely related. It's been both frustrating and exhilarating feeling like a beginner at something again, and it's hopelessly addictive.

But my soul still feels hungry. I yearn for...

I read a short article (Suitable Disruption) in the Economist the other day and it resonated with me. It's about how nowadays people are seen as more competent and creative if they wear informal or "out there" clothes.

In my early professional (in an office, with other people around me) roles I stood out because I didn't wear a suit. The people who...

You guys have hit the crux of it. If you dress to the occasion (so to speak) you eliminate prejudice in whoever you're dealing with, letting you just get on with business. I guess it's less of an issue if you are not trying to make a good first impression or are not representing your professional entity in some manner but if you're meeting people or dealing with clients it's probably worth putting on the shiny shoes and slacks. Sure, playing to the prejudice just perpetuates it, but not to play to it puts you at a disadvantage.

2 Minutes to Midnight is playing on Rage this morning. What a great way to finish breakfast!

Good Friday was interesting, since there were no buses running (stupid Qbn) and I woke up on a friend's couch in Civic. But I am the dealer of Dollhouse love to another good friend, and she needed her fix biggrin.

Really want my new camera already but have...

Back at uni! Back on SG!

Thanks to a mysterious benefactor... Strange, I was talking to a friend the very same day about how much I missed SG <_<... How long have I been gone? I wonder if I have any chance at all of catching up on the sets I missed. Mid-semester break is coming so hey there's a chance I guess!

So... I...

I'm working at McDonalds. They give us a meal discount. I've used it once. Now I'm thinking I might just bring some fruit from home. At least until I figure out what there is on the menu that I can eat without feeling ill half an hour later. Off the menu there's chilled water, that's been my staple.

The work is surprisingly fun compared to...
