Peer out into the sea.
"The romance in piers," she told me, "it's like walking on water."
"Did you want to race?" I ask.
"I'm wearing sandals..." She says.
"I'm wearing boots..." I said.
"I don't even know you" She says.
"I run like a liar" I said.
"Hows that?" She asks.
"Real fast and in the wrong direction." I say.
"So I have a fighting chance?" She hopes.
"I don't even know you." I snide.
"What if we started this race, to the end of the pier but when we got their, we couldn't just walk away, it could be weird I mean we're something five hundred feet out to sea and we would have to walk five hundred or so feet back within ten feet of each other. one just humiliated the other, I don't know if I'm ready for that." She says
"It is a bit of a commitment... with a stranger... okay here, the loser has to stare out to sea while the winner gets to walk away from this whole relat... this whole competition, this argument, err, this us, the winner walks away, unhurt and not at all awkward," I say.
"But the loser gets to stare off into the sea, isn't that more of a prize then walking away?" She asks.
"It all depends on how you look at it really, I mean if it means that much to you I'll just beat you so I can walk away, unawkward and you can "lose" and stare off into the sea." I say.
"So you really think you could beat me huh? What if i was some marathon runner or some track athlete, you don't even know me, should you really be picking races with strangers?" She asks.
"..." I reply
She says "We go on three."
