Lots and Lots of cool things happening!
I enrolled and registered for my classes this week at PCC. Upon enrollment, I discover they have a whole fire protection program which leads to a Assoc. in Applied Sciences degree. So I wanted in. But you we're required to attend the Fire Academy... which I attended in NY.
After running around like a madman and making mucho amounts of phone calls, I was accepted into the program... almost too easy. The phone convo went like this:
ME: Hey, I want to take the Fire protection courses. I talked to the chief about it and he told me to call this office.
HER: well, he isnt in. no one is here but me.
ME: Well, maybe you can help me. I am a student and I have experience that I was hoping could waive me from the fire academy.
HER: Are you a firefighter?
ME: Yes, I am a registered firefighter with **** Fire Dept. I already have a Firefighter 1 certification.
HER: **typing** okay, I put in a waiver for you. Go ahead and register for your classes. congrats. Don't forget to purchase a uniform.
ME: Do you want me to email a copy of the certificate to you?
HER: Yea, thats a good idea. Take care.
I am still reeling in happy thoughts!!! So my plan now is to get a A.A.S. degree in Fire Protection and get a B.S. in Criminology. Hopefully with these two degrees, and my experience, I can apply for a job at *some* FD/PD/EMS or emergency service/management office. Time will tell. I am super excited.
In other news, Portland has definately grown on me. I am so happy to be here... I enjoy it immensely and I fell into a new lifestyle that fits me so well. I still miss New York. And California. And every other city, state, country that I have fond memories but just like before, it is time to move on. I am definitely happy with the change. We shall see what happens from here... classes start in 2 weeks. Still looking for a job. Still cannot believe I am out of the service. But I am still alive.
