Hello Children,
Today I come to you with a rant about being a pagan in the Midwest. It's no easy task. I live in a town filled with bible-thumpers, and bible-thumping hypocrites. What's really sad is that I live a stone's throw away from Sturgis, the Harley Davidson capital of the world, and home of the infamous rally of the same name and it's just as bad over there.
I wear my Thor's Hammer amulet with pride and sure enough, I get at least one local asshole (per day) hell-bent on trying to save my soul and lead me to Christ. While I do my best to tolerate and respect their viewpoint, I can't help but wish for the apocalypse to hurry up and arrive. Then maybe these ignorant, bigoted, backwater-thinking sheeple will finally realize that all of their absurd ranting raving about rapture and the second coming isn't going to happen. No one is going to save them, their concept of heaven and hell doesn't exist.
Having a rational discussion with people of Christian faith about death and the great beyond is next to impossible. The idea that they might be wrong about what will or won't happen fails to even register with them. It even gets to the point where they won't even listen to I have to say. They cut me off, or they completely shut down and keep repeating their last point in hope of winning the discussion by way of volume instead of logic and reason. At this point I have to walk away because then it's like trying to reason with four-year old.
Alas, I take comfort in the fact that I'm not the only one who struggles against such ignorance, and narrow-mindedness. That's all I have, Children.
