I helped my brother move this weekend.
He just bought his first house, and was pretty excited to get me out there. It's a nice sized place! And it looks great now that we have almost everything moved in.
My brother is a really awesome guy, it's always good spending time with him and his friends. This time, I met his friend who he met at a Harley show n' shine. Older guy, built though. Did 6 tours in 'Nam. Super funny too! He sent my brother mail to his new house as soon as he heard he'd bought it; we didn't actually get the key to the place until a week after! That didn't stop him from asking if we'd opened his letter daily.
Then there was Slim. Good name for him. Strong though! Was lifting all our Grampa's antique furniture around like it was nothing at all. For a guy with no teeth in the top left side of his mouth (I didn't even ask about it), he sure made short work of the sandwiches the realtor bought.
The first thing we set up was the beer fridge. The first thing in the house was the TV. Then the Harley. The whole house smelt of exhaust!
A little pond is outside my brother's place. Super scummy, guess the previous owners must have never cleaned it out. The pump was blocked up too, so the waterflow wasn't quick enough to keep it from being stagnant. Right before we drained and bleached it, my brother noticed a fish! Just a little dark one, swimming near the rocks on the bottom. We backed off a ways to give it room to get used to us... and 5 more fish came out too!! Three yellow goldfish and two white ones came out from under the rocks. We scooped out the empty beer cans the movers had been throwing in there pretty quick.
Palm Bay has never been a beverage I associate with the kinds of people I was with this weekend, but they insisted that is was the perfect drink after a few beers and before a few more beers, as the taste was so different. I wish I'd brought my camera, as they looked hysterical with their blue and orange cans.
The coolest part was going through all of Grampa's trinkets that were in storage. There was his canvas bag from when he was a sergeant (with all this mess stuff still in it), his old sewing and shaving kit, of which I tried out the razor, with Gillette Blue blades Gillette Blue , and his old LP collection. Not a single artist on there we had ever heard of! They sounded great on the phonograph though!
It was a great weekend. I'm definitely looking forward to spending more time with my brother!
