HUSTLE AND FLOW
It's so hard being a pimp, trying to make the money for the rent...
I must admit I hadn't been considering the plight of the poor, creative, underappreciated, hard-working pimp. Until I saw HUSTLE AND FLOW. Now I realize that even worthless fucks can have a corny Hollywood dream. And be sensitive souls, even after they throw their whore and her baby on the street.
What a crock of overrated shit that movie is.
BASEBALL P.C. GONE WILD.
Felipe Alou, manager of the San Francisco Giants, is incensed because a radio talk show host complained that "brain-dead Caribbean hitters" on his squad were "swinging at slop." Even though the host was suspended for a week for these comments, Alou feels this is not punishment enough for remarks that offended "hundreds of millions" of Hispanics.
Funny, I didn't realize there were hundreds of millions of Hispanics who swang at slop. Though it is certainly true, and has been remarked on frequently, that Dominican players tend not to be patient at the plate. Their on-base percentages (which include walks) don't tend to exceed their batting averages much.
But even if the radio guy's remarks were statistically off-base, why is it wrong for someone to say a team's players are playing stupid baseball? And that their manager has no original thoughts? Isn't that what sports commentators are supposed to be -- opinionated? The guy didn't make a slur of any sort against an entire racial group. He just said the Giants have some Hispanic players who are free-swingers. True or not (and it happens to be true), I'm not sure how that offends an entire race.
