So, obviously, if I'm doing Bauhaus contests, I've been rediscovering my goth roots. I think it was brought on by my love of Interpol and The Faint and the deep goth threads that run through their stuff. When I moved to LA in 1990, goth was still fairly subversive. The clubs were divey and full of clove cigarettes, latex cleavage and psychotic drug and fucking scenes in the bathrooms. It was really fun. I think goth is richly, fantastically undervalued as a subculture. Particularly in this climate where most of the subcultures of the eighties and nineties have been appropriated by people selling cell phones and energy drinks.
